Christian Rodriguez-Ortiz

Audio Engineer & Founder

From Musician to Audio Engineer

Like most engineers, my journey started on the other side of the glass. From middle school through my post-college years, I played in bands and experienced the exact same frustration many of my clients do: trying to capture our sound, only to find our recordings fell completely flat compared to the records we loved. I decided I needed to understand how to make that studio magic happen—not just for my own projects, but for other artists fighting that same battle.

Training & Experience

My understanding of audio goes far beyond moving faders in a DAW. After studying audio production at MCC, I was hired by the college as an adjunct professor. During those years, I cut my teeth diagnosing and repairing vintage analog consoles and outboard gear down to the individual component level. Working hands-on with SSL and API desks, as well as classic Neve, Teletronix, and Lexicon units, taught me exactly what makes legendary gear tick.

I brought that knowledge into my own studio, building custom DIY outboard equipment from kits. Auditioning different op-amps, transformers, and circuitry trained my ears to understand exactly how physical components shape the color, weight, and character of a signal.

My Approach to Audio Engineering

It doesn't matter what genre or artist I'm working with—my initial approach is always the same. Before I touch an EQ, I want to get to know you. I want to know your influences, what you stand for, and the exact sonic footprint you are chasing.

That is why Christian Sound is strictly a solo operation. When you hand your art over to me, it isn't being passed down to an assistant or someone just punching the clock. I make decisions tailored solely to elevate your final product, never to cut corners or save time. Because I care about your record as much as you do.

When I need to step away from the monitors to reset my ears and mind, you can usually find me on the mats—I’ve been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for about nine years. Otherwise, I’m probably out throwing a ball or napping on the couch with the real boss of the studio. Meet the Studio Manager below!

Vibe check. One two, one two.

Every great studio needs a manager to keep the vibes right. Chaco's daily duties include testing the RT60 acoustic decay of the tracking room with a single, strategically placed bark, and sitting in on critical listening sessions to help me dial in the "ruff" mixes.

When he isn't actively monitoring frequencies, he enforces strict studio wellness policies by jumping directly onto the arm of my chair the moment he decides it's time for an ear break.
